Pen and Touch Settings (TabletPC.cpl)

Run: TabletPC.cpl or Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Pen & Windows Ink

Configure pen and touch input behavior for tablets, Surface devices, and touchscreen PCs.

Pen Settings

• Pen button shortcuts: Single click, double click, and press-and-hold actions (right-click emulation, eraser mode, etc.)
• Visual feedback: Show pointer rings on touch/pen contact — helps identify input contact points
• Flick gestures (legacy): Swipe gestures for navigation — largely deprecated in Win10/11

Touch Settings

Enable or disable touch input entirely. Useful when a touchscreen causes accidental input (e.g., industrial environments where the screen may be touched accidentally).

Handwriting Personalization

Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Pen → Handwriting — train the handwriting recognition engine with your specific writing style to improve accuracy.

Wacom and Third-Party Tablets

Windows Pen settings apply to in-box drivers only. Wacom, Huion, and XP-Pen tablets use their own driver and configuration application:

• Wacom Tablet Properties: Controls pressure curves, ExpressKey mapping, eraser behavior, application-specific profiles
• Overrides Windows tablet settings for those devices
• Update manufacturer driver after major Windows updates — Microsoft updates often break third-party tablet drivers

Pen Calibration

If the pen cursor does not align with the pen tip visually:

tabcal.exe

Runs the tablet calibration tool. Also accessible via Pen and Touch → Display tab → Calibrate.

IT Troubleshooting

• Pen not detected after Windows update: reinstall pen driver from device manufacturer
• Bluetooth pen not pairing: check Device Manager → Bluetooth → look for pen device with errors
• Accidental palm input: enable Palm Rejection in device-specific driver settings
